Born and raised in the heart of the Maya K'iche' community
Chichicastenango, Guatemala, my community embodies resilience against centuries of oppression - namely genocide, colonization, and globalization. Understandings of layers of existence and an intentional balance of worldviews have been essential to our survival as the Mayan people. We preserve our culture while evolving. We maintain rooted in our values as we extend our branches out to increase access and representation. Applying these same principles to my work in visual media, I create multi-dimensional pieces that present layers of meaning to the audience, evolve traditional concepts, and expand broaden access to knowledge.
